If you would like to make any Kindle-Centric suggestions, please post them in the "comments" section below, or click here: Post a Comment. Such suggestions might be along the lines of: "I'm not a fan of the 'encyclopedia entries', can you just focus on updating the story once a week?" or "Hey, the site's formatting is weird. Can you fix it?"

Hi. I read about this project on the Kindle blog and decided to take a look. Love the story so far, and I love the format idea. I'm looking forward to reading your comments about the writing process as you go along.

My only problem so far with the Kindle version is confusion about chronology. When I subscribed yesterday it started me with Interlude Pt. 1, after which came chapter 3. I didn't realize that the interlude came after chapters 1-3 until I visited the website and saw the proper order.

I'm sure this is due to Amazon's formatting it as a blog and therefore showing most recent entries first. This is the first "blog" I've tried on the Kindle so I didn't know what to expect.

2 questions:

1) When I'm finished reading the latest post should I delete and wait for the new one to arrive? Or if I leave it on my Kindle will it simply update and add the newest posts to the existing ones?

2) When the project is complete will a full version in correct order be available for download for current subscribers?

Thanks. Keep up the good work.

Hi Paul,

Thank you for your comment. That is a good point you make about the chronology, and you are correct in assuming that it is because of the blog format. Hopefully, this will be clearer with future chapters.

With regards to your questions:

1) I asked Amazon about this, and they said that old posts will be replaced with new posts automatically. Unfortunately, by my understanding, this means that once the post limit has been reached, back chapters (i.e. 1, 2, 3, and so on) will be replaced with newer entries.

However, I was told that you can save the old files on your computer through USB and re-upload them to your kindle later if you'd like to read them again.

2) In addition to the above, Amazon is looking into options to be able to retain the older chapters and other entries. I'll post here again as soon as I hear back from them on what they come up with.

Thank you for writing, and I look forward to hearing your thoughts on the novel as it progresses!

Hello Andrew,

Great book so far ;)

Anyhow, I was curious if the Chapters, Author's Notes, and World Encyclopedia entries will continue to be listed chronologically, as was stated in the "Note to Kindle Users" post? If so, for example, would it be possible to update the current Kindle blog to show the entries as follows:

* The newest chapter or other type of entry (in this case, as of 1-25-2009, "Chapter IV: The Sun")
* Prologue and Chapter I: The Moon
* Chapter II: Her Body Was a Work of Art
* Chapter III: Into the Rabbit Hole...(Or, Played Out Alice in Wonderland Reference)
* Interlude Part I: The Tower
* Interlude Part II: XIII
* Chapter IV: The Sun
* Author's Notes:
** Aspects of Writing **
#01 Characters
* World Encyclopedia:
** Technologies **
#01 Reconstructor/Vendor
** Society **
#01 Idest

Kindest regards,

Hi Holly,

Good suggestion! I have actually been looking for a way to do this, but my final solution will probably be a little different than what you are asking for.

While I will update soon (either today or tomorrow) with the full-workings of the new format, I will say that I am pretty confident that I can get the chapters in chronological order reliably, with only the latest chapter out of order.

Sorry to be so vague. Hopefully, my forthcoming post will clear things up.

Thanks for writing!

Hello Andrew,

How did your mother's move go? I hope it went as smoothly as a move can possibly go ;)

When you have a moment, could you please update the current Kindle blog to list the chapters (or other), chronologically, to something similar to the following:

1. The newest chapter or other type of entry (in this case, as of 2-15-2009, "VI: Exposition")
2. "A Fallout 101 Valentine's Day Special!"
3. "Prologue and Chapter I: The Moon"
4. "II: Her Body Was a Work of Art"
5. "III: Into the Rabbit Hole (Or... Played Out Alice in Wonderland Reference)"
6. "Interlude Part I: The Tower"
7. "Interlude Part II: XIII"
8. "IV: The Sun" (~ please condense this chapter into one entry versus 4 entries ~)
9. "V: Rifts"
10. "#01 Society - Idest"
11. "#01 Technologies - Reconstructor/Vendor"
12. ~ remove the older posts and replace them with 14 "Blank Post" (or whatever you would like to call them) entries to act as place that older chapters stay in the weekly blog for as long as possible; and so that new subscribers do not get confused (FYI - I kept 4 weekly blogs, and each one of them holds 25 entries versus the 15 or so entries that, I believe, were originally thought to remain in a weekly blog) ~

Keep up the good work!

Kindest regards,

P.S. Please be sure to note the comments I made between the "~" symbols in line item numbers "8." and "12." above.

Thanks for the advice Holly! I honestly don't know what happened with the site, it's all out of order now and I am going to do my best to fix it. I don't currently have internet (it's an hour drive into town; and right now, I'm at a friend's house so I can make this week's update on time).

My mother's move went very well, by the way, thank you for asking! I'm glad to hear that you are still enjoying the story, I hope it gets better as it goes along.

Hi - thanks for your efforts to adapt to the Amazon structure. Hopefully, you have a lot of subscribers and can have a little clout with them. For those of us who came in a little late, would it be possible to provide a link to a file for us to download in the Kindle format (mobi or whatever). Then we could transfer that to our Kindles using USB. As it is now, saving all the old pages means you have many files to look at and no idea of what order they should be read. If you provided periodic complied files, problem solved.

Hi Bill,

That was my original plan, actually, but now that I have twenty five slots to fill, I should be able to fit most (if not all) of the chapters of the completed novel in the file that Amazon sends to you.

Also, I recently put the chapters all in order, as my "notes about new format (again)" post illustrated, with only the two most recent posts out of order. (One of the posts will probably always be a "note from author," while the other is going to be the most recent chapter. After that, the chapters will be in order.)

Thanks for your input! I hope the book makes more sense on your Kindle.
